Azarenka continues dominance over Wozniacki

Venus Williams reacts to defeat by Svitolina at Roland Garros

Victoria Azarenka beat fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to advance to the third round of the rain-delayed Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Wednesday.

The Belarusian won 6-0, 6-4, having started the match firing on all cylinders; winning 14 of the first 18 points to totally dominate the first set.

Wozniacki did look more competitive in the second set but could not take advantage of the break points on offer while Azarenka converted two of her four chances to win the set and match. 

With this win Azarenka continues her domination of the Dane; having beaten her in straight sets in all of their last six meetings.

Her next opponent in the third round will be Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who beat Kazakhstan qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova in three sets.

Swiss youngster Belinda Bencic beat Italy's Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 6-4 to extending her winning streak to eight straight matches. 

She will next be up against seventh seed Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the third round, who beat American Coco Vandeweghe 6-4, 7-5.

Serbia's Jelena Jankovic defeated Madison Keys 7-6 (4), 6-4 in just over two hours in a close match; with her consistency sdeeing her through in the end.

She next faces eighth seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova, who got past Hungarian qualifier Timea Babos in straight sets.

Czech fourth seed Petra Kvitova crashed out after being beaten 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 by Caroline Garcia of France. Garcia faces 14th seed Ukrainian Elina Svitolina next after beating Canada's Eugenie Bouchard 7-6 (6), 7-5.
