Cristiano Ronaldo, Serena Williams and Neymar are among the sports stars that have been voted as the world's most charitable athletes.

In a poll conducted by, an organistaion that promotes social change, the Real Madrid ace topped the 'Athletes Gone Good' list of sports stars based on the methodology of "(1) Votes and nominations from the public (2) Athlete’s influence on social media and (3) Advice from the Athletes Gone Good Advisory Committee."

Ronaldo is well known for his generosity, and has donated millions of dollars to various charities, while also being involved in projects with charities that include Save the Children, UNICEF, Aid Still Required, and World Vision.

"(Ronaldo) raised money for various causes including donating more than $83,000 to a 10-year-old fan in need of brain surgery and giving more than $165,000 to fund a cancer centre in Portugal that treated his mother," said in a statement.

"Ronaldo has also used his fame as a global spokesperson for a variety of causes including childhood hunger, obesity and biodiversity."

Speaking in 2013, Ronaldo said that his desire to help others was down to some words of wisdom imparted by his father.
