Newcastle have completed the signing of Marseille winger Florian Thauvin, with Remy Cabella heading in the opposite direction on loan.
The French Under-21 international arrives for a reported fee of £12million, and has put pen to a five-year contract.
"I have come from France to a really big club and am very happy to be here," said the 22-year-old.
"It is a big honour to know that Newcastle have been after me for such a long time and that they wanted me that much.
"They have put their trust in me and I am looking forward to playing for the team."
Thauvin is the fifth player to arrive at Newcastle in the current transfer window, and manager Steve McLaren has expressed his delight at securing the winger's services.
"He is a perfect signing for this club – someone who is young, with great potential and is one of the best young players in Europe," said McLaren.
"He is an exciting, creative talent who can score goals and make assists, and we believe he will have a very bright future at Newcastle."
Thauvin made 81 appearances and scored 15 goals for Marseille in the two seasons he spent with the club, having joined L'OM after a disappointing spell at Lille in which he never made a first team appearance.
