Stan Wawrinka and Richard Gasquet both advanced to the third round of the Western & Southern Open following their respective wins on Wednesday.
The Swiss ace was forced to come back from a set down to secure a 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 victory against Borna Coric on the hard courts of Cincinnati in Ohio.
After Coric saved two break points in the second game, the 18-year-old bounced back to break the French Open champion to go 3-1 up. A final break in the ninth game would seal the set for the Croatian.
The second set was a tense affair as the duo swapped service games in the lead up to a tiebreaker. Coric went 3-2 up and was four points away from a huge upset.
But the two-time grand slam winner turned on the class to win the final five points in a row to take the match into a decider.
The fifth seed needed just 36 minutes and one break of serve to put away the dangerous Coric in the final set.
Wawrinka now faces the big serving Ivo Karlovic, who defeated Martin Klizan 6-3, 7-6(2) on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 12th seed Richard Gasquet booked a tie against defending US Open champion Marin Cilic in the third round following his 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.
