Australian Matt Jones has retained his PGA Championship lead at the halfway mark of the third round.

Jones, who is one-under for the day after nine holes, held a one-shot advantage at 12-under from his playing partner and compatriot Jason Day.

Martin Kaymer, who was the champion at Whistling Straits in 2010, joins Day at 11-under as does Brendan Grace, with the German and his South African playing partner still having a hole to play. American Tony Finau was 11-under through 10 holes to join the trio on 11-under.

Jordan Spieth kept his hopes of a third major alive with a solid opening 12 holes that saw him move to nine-under.

Earlier, world number one Rory McIlroy posted a 68 to move to six-under.
