FIBA OQT tickets sold in black market 5x the original value

Filipino and foreign fans who are late to secure ticket for the FIBA Olympic qualifier but are eager to witness the rare event are bound to pay a steep price — literally.

Immersing in a group of scalpers just outside the Mall of Asia Arena, FOX Sports has learned that prices of the tickets for the upper box and general admission already soared high just hours away from Day 1 of the Manila qualifier

From a regular price of 200 pesos, the ‘black’ market is offering the gen ad ticket for as high as Php 1,000 to Php 1,500.

For upperbox, scalpers vary their offer and can range from Php 2,000-Php 2,500 pesos, SRO or reserved seating, from its original price of Php 400.

But they couldn’t get their hands on lower box and patron seats, though.

“Wala na doon, sold out na,” said a young scalper.

An older man also added that they can’t afford the lower box and patron tickets with its regular price at legitimate ticket booth already at Php 6,800 and Php 8,500, respectively.

Scalpers have supply of passes for both Tuesday and Wednesday game dates, where Gilas Pilinas will try to survive the elimination round against France and New Zealand.

“Hanggang bukas,” informed the scalper in an exchange of text messages. “Mabilis lang maubos to.”

The black market price is expected to rise even more should Gilas secure a berth in the crossover semifinals and finals. – By Jason Mercene
