Second seed Michelle Li of Canada had few issues when reaching the second round of badminton's Yonex US Open in El Monte, California on Wednesday.
Li needed just 22 minutes to beat American Disha Gupta 21-18, 21-7 to set up a second round match against Canadian qualifier Tai Yin after she hammered Nangsal Tamang of Nepal 21-7, 21-8.
In other women's first-round matches, third seed Yui Hashimoto of Japan defeated Canada's Olivia Lei 21-9, 21-10 and Japan's fourth seed Kaori Imabeppu needed just 16 minutes to crush American Jennifer Yee 21-3, 21-1.
US fifth seed Beiwen Zhang got past Elisabeth Baldauf of Austria 21-12, 21-18 and in an upset unseeded Thi Trang Vu of Vietnam beat sixth seed Iris Wang of the US 21-17, 21-16 in 39 minutes.
Bulgarian seventh seed Linda Zetchiri downed Crystal Pan of the US 21-18, 21-11 and eighth seed Aya Ohori of Japan needed 62 minutes to get past Switzerland's Sabrina Jaquet 23-21, 26-24.
