Alba out for Barca opener

Silva refuses to comment on FA charge over his Mendy tweet

Barcelona have confirmed defender Jordi Alba will miss the start of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury in pre-season.

The Spain international is expected to miss around two weeks of action, meaning he is unlikely to feature until after the first La Liga game of the campaign.

Barcelona kick off their competitive action in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena on August 11.

The Catalans will then face Athletic Club twice, home and away, in the Supercoppa de Espana, before hosting the Basque club once more in the season opener on August 23.

However, Alba is likely to miss all four games after he was forced off in Barca's 3-0 win over Roma in a friendly on Wednesday.

Neymar, Ivan Rakitic and Lionel Messi scored the goals in the Joan Gamper pre-season game at the Camp Nou.
