Bayer 04 Leverkusen have joined the race for Roma striker Sadiq Umar as they look to secure a potential season-long loan deal.

Sadiq recently signed a permanent contract with the Serie A club after spending last season on loan there from second-tier side Spezia.

According to African Football, the Nigerian marksman is not in the immediate plans for Giallorossi manager Luciano Spalletti, who regards him as a hot prospect for the future after he scored two goals in six appearances.

Domestic rivals Bologna have also been credited with interest in the teenager in recent weeks but Leverkusen are reportedly lead the chase.

"Bayer Leverkusen are now among the many clubs who wish to take Sadiq on loan," read a statement on the website about the Nigeria youth international.

"But nothing can happen until he returns to Italy after his time with the Nigeria Olympics team. That is what is holding up where he will play next season."
