Jeff Napa downplays Letran loss: Hindi naman upset kasi malakas din ang Perpetual

Coach Jeff Napa and his Letran Knights suffered a surprising 55-61 at the hands of the University of the Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas Friday afternoon at the Flying V Center in San Juan City.

After their opening day loss to archrivals San Beda Red Lions , the Intramuros-based squad went on a 4-game winning spree only to be stopped by a gritty Altas squad.

And while many were tagging their loss as a shocker, Napa was quick to play down the loss. He credited coach Jimwell Gican’s wards in their big win.

“Hindi naman (upset) kasi malakas din naman talaga yung Perpetual. Credit to them. Nag-ready talaga sila,” Napa shared to Fox Sports PH.

He also admitted that while this certainly hit their early campaign, there’s nothing much to worry as they move forward to brace themselves for a bounce back game against the JRU Heavy Bombers, who are coming off a morale-boosting win.

“Hindi naman ganoon kabigat yung game,” he said. “Pero kailangan naming i-check yung mga sarili namin kung ano yung mga nagawa naming hindi tama.”

The defending champions shot a lowly 34% of their attempts, and just had 14 assists and 39 rebounds which eventually resulted in their lowest scoring output of the season thus far.

“Hindi kami naglaro as a group, as a team. Kaya siguro naging ganun yung result,” Napa added.

“Kailangan lang namin mag-regroup and be ready for our next game.”
