Everton boss Roberto Martinez was delighted by his side's progression to the Capital One Cup semi-finals following their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
Gerard Delofeu and Romelu Lukaku both scored in an excellent first-half display at the Riverside Stadium to book a spot in the semi-finals.
And Martinez felt the win was just rewards for the Toffees' travelling fans, and believes Everton learned from letting a two-goal lead slip against Bournemouth to draw 3-3 on the weekend.
"It was all about getting to the semi-finals. The fans came in big numbers and it is terrific for our football club," he told Sky Sports after the game.
"We knew we had to be very mature and control the game. I thought we did that really well, especially after the weekend.
"We showed we learnt a lot from the weekend. Middlesbrough are a very, very good team and they defended really well. Our two goals were exceptional pieces of quality.
"That is never something to take for granted. Most pleasing, though, was to keep the clean sheet after going 2-0 up."
