Muller told to turn down EPL switch

Highlights – FC Schalke 04 vs FC Bayern M√ľnchen

Bayern München legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Thomas Muller to turn down advances from Premier League teams to remain with the Bavarians for the rest of his career.

Muller has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United, and the forward has said previously that the money on offer in the Premier League makes a move to England "very tempting".

"In the end, we should not forget that playing football is our job," Muller told German publication Welt am Sonntag.

"So people should accept that wages will always play a role in a player's decision-making. Of course, the wages that are being paid in the Premier League are very tempting. It would be hypocrisy to deny that."

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at the Allianz Arena, having joined Bayern in 2000, and Matthaus sees no reason why the Germany international should leave the club.

"He does not need United or Chelsea," Matthaus told Bild. "My opinion is he should definitely stay at Bayern for his lifetime. He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here.

"He does not need any new challenge as he is always playing at the highest level every year at Bayern."

Muller has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga this season, a haul that has helped Bayern make an unbeaten start to the 2015/16 league campaign.
