Chile international Matias Fernandez will turn out for AC Milan this season after joining on a season-long loan from Serie A rivals Fiorentina.
The deal includes an option to buy if the 30-year-old impresses in his 12 months at the San Siro.
Fernandez has been at Fiorentina since 2012, but has never really been able to hold down a regular first team place and made just 69 Serie A appearances in five years.
Last season 11 of his 22 league games were from off the bench and remained an unused substitute in both of the club's first two games of the season.
The midfielder forms part of somewhat of a squad revolution by head coach Vincenzo Montella at AC Milan and follows the arrivals of Gianluca Ladadula, Gustavo Gomez, Mario Pasalic and Leonel Vangioni
He will be in line to make his debut after the international break against Udinese on September 11.
"Mati Fernandez has today officially been registered as an AC Milan player, on loan with option to buy," read the very brief statement on Milan's official website.
