The University of the Philippines started Season 79 in style after dominating the first-ever UAAP Ballroom Dance Competition on Saturday at the Quadricentennial Pavillion in UST.

The UP Ballroom Formation clinched back-to-back championships in the Latin-America and Standard category of this season’s demonstration event.

A perennial powerhouse in cheerdance and streetdance, UP showed its groove in the ballroom floor en route to an impressive 94.48 score in the Latin-America event. Host UST garnered 91.66 points while UE came in at third place with 84.42.

The Maroons also ran victorious in the Standard event where they garnered 94.3 points en route to the double gold, sharing the podium this time with UST (92.1) and La Salle (87).

The dancers of the UP Ballroom Formation Team, consisting of members from the Pep Squad, Filipiniana Dance Troupe, and Streetdance among others, prepared for almost two months heading to the big event.
