Former King Tiger Kevin Ferrer believes this batch of UST Growling Tigers can return to the Finals even with a depleted lineup.
Present in UST’s 83-77 win against the University of the Philippines at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, Ferrer said he’s happy with the way the veterans are stepping up.
“Sa tingin ko makakapasok naman sila sa Finals if mag-teamwork magsama-sama, ibigay nila yung hundred percent nila every game,” Ferrer told FOX Sports after the game. “Sobrang saya kasi nanalo sila. Nag-step up yung mga beterano sa game.”
Ferrer advised his former teammates to stick together and accept their roles as this will be a tough season for the Tigers compared to last year when they entered the semis as the no.1 team.
“Kami nila Ed Daquioag experienced na kami. Itong mga ‘to ngayon pa lang nagkakaroon ng experience eh,” Ferrer said.
“Magtiwala lang sa sarili, mag-move on na kasi hindi na tatakbo sa mga nawala yung team na ‘to kung hindi sila na dapat yung mag-handle ng situation,” he added.
During his decorated collegiate career, Ferrer has been a part of all the three runners-up team during the Seasons 75, 76 and 78. He averaged 17.9 points and 8.2 rebounds in his last and best year with UST.
Fresh from his stint with the Gilas 5.0 in the FIBA Asia Challenge, Ferrer asked the Thomasian community to keep supporting the Tigers amid the ongoing transition.
“Just keep on fighting lang. Suportahan lagi ‘yung team and sama-sama sila buong UST community dapat sama-sama laging lumaban,” Ferrer said. – By John Cehster Fajardo
