Team consultant Tab Baldwin believes the Ateneo Blue Eagles played great defense during the dying seconds of their 62-61 heartbreaking loss against the Adamson Falcons on Saturday night.
Just, the basketball gods favored the Falcons this time around as rarely used Dawn Ochea shocked the whole Araneta Coliseum with a turnaround dagger to seal the game.
“I didn’t think our defense was bad in that last possession, we fouled when we needed to, we ran it down,” Baldwin said after the game.
“They just really hit a tough shot and we didn’t hit the one that we ran in the [other] end.”
The Gilas Pilipinas coach said Ateneo played three quarters of basketball, they even led by 10 in the last quarter before Rob Manalang decided to put the whole Falcons team on his back. The Fil-Am guard scored 10 points in the last quarter alone and finished with 15 points.
“They did a great job defensively on us. We made a few mistakes of rushing some shots, some possessions and turning the ball a few times. They did more than we did in the fourth quarter,” Baldwin giving credit where it is due.
Baldwin said Ateneo needs to learn from those kinds of games and hopes his young players take this kind of experience to further improve.
“We need to learn from that. And we’ll learn. We’ll get better from that,” the American-Kiwi coach said. – By John Chester Fajardo
