Sunderland are still looking for their first win of the campaign when they face an improving Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
The Black Cats look set for another fight against relegation as, five matches into the season, they have just one point to their name after suffering five defeats, including losses to Everton and Spurs in their last two league encounters. They did, however, defeat QPR 2-1 in the EFL Cup in midweek, giving them something small to build on.
The Eagles, on the other hand, seem to have put their worrying form behind them. Alan Pardew's side started the campaign with two defeats and a draw, but back-to-back wins over Middlesbrough and Stoke City have seen them climb to eighth, and they will be confident of continuing that trend in the North East.
In teams news, veteran striker Jermain Defoe sat out the cup clash with QPR with a calf problem but should be fit to feature, while Wahbi Khazri returns from illness. Victor Anichebe (thigh strain), Fabio Borini (groin strain), Vito Mannone (elbow), and Sebastian Larsson (medial collateral ligament) are all still sidelined.
Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that defender Scott Dann (hamstring) "definitely will miss this game" but James Tomkins (knee) is fit. Long-term absentees Loic Remy (thigh muscle strain) and Pape Souaré (broken leg) also miss out.
