AS Roma defender Bruno Peres says his team will be targeting all three points when they face Napoli in a Serie A encounter at Stadio San Paolo on Saturday.
Napoli and Roma currently occupy second and third place respectively, with the Partenopei one point ahead of their opponents in the standings.
Peres shared his thoughts on how the Serie A title race was shaping up, in addition to highlighting their plan to defeat Maurizio Sarri’s charges.
“Of course, we know it’s only just begun and nothing has been decided but you’ve got Juventus, Napoli and ourselves,” he told the club’s official website.
“These teams have all begun the season well. I believe the competition is still wide open.
We’re still at the start and we have to work very hard and try to do well because the league season will be done and dusted only after the final match.”
The former Torino man also admitted the Roma squad was expecting a stern test from Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo, which has become a fortress in recent times – Napoli last tasted a home loss in January 2016, when they were defeated 2-0 by Inter in the Coppa Italia.
“We know how difficult it is to play in that stadium against such a strong side. We have to roll up our sleeves and try to play at our best because we have a tough game in store for us on Saturday. Nevertheless, we want to win,” he added.
Roma’s top marksman, Arkadiusz Milik, is expected to miss the clash after picking up an injury whilst on national team duty with Poland.
However, Peres is confident they will be able to cope in the striker’s absence.
“It’s a big loss for them because he’s a great player, very strong, but the way they play is a bit different and even without him they’re a frightening prospect. We have to try to put in a superb performance,” Peres revealed.
