Chou, Saina reach Macau Open quarters

Men’s top seed Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei reached the quarter-finals of the Macau Open and women’s top seed Saina Nehwal did the same on Thursday.

Chou had few issues beating China’s Zhu Siyuan 21-16, 21-17 to set up a quarter-final clash with Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu of Indonesia after battling past Malaysia’s Liew Daren 21-13, 17-21, 21-15 in just under an hour.

In other men’s singles third-round action, Lin Yu Hsien from Chinese Taipei beat India’s Parupalli Kashyap 21-13, 22-20 and Huang Yuxiang of China saw off Indonesia’s Firman Abdul Kholik 21-12, 21-18 in 35 minutes.

In a match lasting one hour and 12 minutes, Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng battled past Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 21-17, 19-21, 21-18 while Zhao Jun Peng of China hammered Malaysia’s Yeo Kay Ee 21-9, 21-15 in just 24 minutes.

In women’s singles, India’s Nehwal needed over an hour to get past Dinar Dyah Ayustine of Indonesia 17-21, 21-18, 21-12 to set up a quarter-final matchup with Zhang Yiman of China after she cruised past Chinese Taipei’s Wan Yi Tang 21-14, 21-10.

Third seed Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong was a comfortable winner when defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chiang Mei Hui 21-11, 21-12 and in an upset unseeded Chen Xiaoxin of China beat Malaysian fifth seed Tee Jing Yi 21-17, 21-19 in 49 minutes.

Yue Han of China beat Chinese Taipei’s Su Yu Chen 21-8, 21-10 while seventh seed Xiaoyu Liang of Singapore crushed China’s Cai Yanyan 21-13, 21-7 in 33 minutes.
