Colabello keeps Blue Jays firing

The Blue Jays never looked back after a six-run first-inning, in which Colabello contributed an RBI single, while Josh Donaldson homered in the second before adding two RBIs in the seventh in an all-round fantastic performance.

The Colorado Rockies thrashed the St Louis Cardinals by the same scoreline, with Troy Tulowitzki giving them the perfect start with a three-run homer.

That came as part of a five-run first-inning as Cardinals starter John Lackey endured a chastening day, conceding 10 runs in four innings.

Andre Ethier and Jimmy Rollins each smashed three-run homers as the Los Angeles Dodgers eased to a 9-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, whose former pitcher Mike Bolsinger held them to two runs over seven innings.

American League West leaders Houston slumped to their fifth successive defeat, with the Astros losing 3-1 against the Chicago White Sox, for who Chris Sale allowed just one run over eight innings.

RBI doubles from Matt Kemp and Alexi Amarista lifted the San Diego Padres to a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves after 11 innings, while Ivan De Jesus Jr’s first Major League homer helped the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jason Vargas pitched six shutout innings in the Kansas City Royals’ 3-1 triumph over the Minnesota Twins, while AJ Burnett allowed only one run over seven innings but could not prevent the Pittsburgh Pirates from losing 2-0 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
