V Shem: We were lucky to win

V Shem and Wee Kiong, who are ranked 19th in the world, were forced to dig deep in their 21-9, 18-21, 30-28 win over Sorensen and Rasmussen and will now face Japan's Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa in the second round on Thursday. 

"We were lucky to win a close game today, and hopefully do a lot better in tomorrow’s match," V Shem told The Star

V Shem and Wee Kiong are just one of two Malaysian teams left in the tournament after Tee Jing Yi, Amelia Alicia Anscelly, Soong Fie Cho, Chan Peng Soon, Goh Liu Ying, Vivian Kah Mun Hoo, Woon Khe Wei, Chong Wei Feng, Cheah Lyddia Yi Yu, Mak Hee Chun and Teo Kok Siang were all knocked out in the first round. 

The other Malaysian team left in the competition is Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong as they beat Japan's Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda 21-16, 20-22, 21-10 in their men's double match on Wednesday.
