Fabregas ban cut to one match

F1 British Grand Prix – Valtteri Bottas pole position lap

Fabregas was sent off for kicking the ball at Chris Brunt during a break in play and stood to serve a three-match ban under Football Association rules.??

But an independent panel has now reduced the length of that suspension to one game, meaning the Spain international misses the final game of the season against Sunderland but will be available from the start of the new season.

A statement from Chelsea read: “The standard sanction would have been a??three-match suspension.

“However, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing earlier??today (Wednesday), the club’s claim that a three-match suspension is excessive was??successful.”

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat at the Hawthorns, Jose Mourinho had said: “For me a top referee, a stable, big personality and in control of the game, goes there, two or three words and it’s done. It’s a bizarre red card.

“A three game ban for this? Harsh? Of course it’s harsh. Why does he have to??explain? He doesn’t need to explain.”
