Halep determined to win first Grand Slam

‘It was a good day for tennis’ says Federer after beating Djokovic

Halep came extremely close to triumphing at Roland Garros last year as she reached the final of the tournament without having lost a single set. However, her dream of winning her maiden Grand Slam was shattered when she was beaten 4-6, 7-6 (5), 4-6 by Maria Sharapova.

But, having recently reached the semi-final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart and the Rome Masters, Halep is confident that she will taste glory at the French Open this year.

"I'm feeling my game on clay right now," she told the official WTA site. "I like the clay. I've always liked clay, and I've always felt very confident on it. I've had some of the best memories of my career in Paris, too.

"My game is getting better day by day. I feel ready to go for the French Open."
