Title favourites Lin Dan and Shi Yuqi both booked their places in the Swiss Open quarter-finals on Thursday after solid third-round victories.
Top seed Lin, a former two-time Olympic champion, easily dispatched Frenchman Brice Leverdez 21-7, 21-14 in a little over 30 minutes to set up a last eight encounter with Indonesian Ihsan Maulana Mustofa.
Mustofa advanced after beating Fabian Roth 21-16, 21-9.
Second seed Shi, meanwhile, had to battle back from a game down to defeat Anders Antonsen 16-21, 21-15, 21-16.
Others to advance on the day included fifth seed H.S Prannoy of India and Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang, the sixth seed.
Prannoy looked down and out against Qiao Bin but rallied to secure a 9-21, 23-21, 21-15 victory. Tzu saw off countryman Lin Yu Hsien 21-14, 21-12.
In the women’s draw, third seed Chen Yufei reached the last eight with a 21-16, 21-16 victory over Sabrina Jaquet.
Second seed Beiwen Zhang joined her by beating Mia Blechfeldt 21-18, 21-12.
Indonesia’s Fitriani Fitriani is also still alive. She beat qualifier Zhang Yiman 21-9, 12-21, 21-18.
