Chong Wei helps Malaysia in Sudirman Cup

Tuesday saw wins for Malaysia and India at the ongoing Sudirman Cup in Australia on Tuesday.

Malaysia cruised past Germany 5-0 while India defeated Indonesia 4-1 on the courts of the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.

Thai superstar Chong Wei defeated Fabian Roth 21-12, 21-11 in the second game to give Malaysia a 2-0 lead. Teammates Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei also recorded victories in the 5-0 whitewash.

The win puts Malaysia on top of Group 1C, followed by Japan and Germany.

Later in the day, Indonesian pair Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo recorded the team’s only win again a fired up Indian team lead by Srikanth Kidambi, who won his match against Jonatan Christie two games to love.

The Sudirman Cup is the world mixed teambadminton championship which takes place every two years. There are five matches in every round: men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The Cup is named after Dick Sudirman, . a formerIndonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). The first Sudirman Cup tournament took place in Bung Karno Stadium, Central Jakarta, Indonesia on May 24 – May 29, 1989. .
