Team South Korea defeated China 3-2 in the final of the 15th edition of the 2017 Sudirman Cup on Sunday.
The Koreans unseated the reigning champions in a nail-biting final at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre in Australia.
After edging Japan in the semi-finals on Saturday, South Korea faced a motivated Chinese outfit lead by superstar Chen Long.
Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nana gave China a winning start in the opening clash, defeating the South Koreans 21-14, 21-15.
In the following women’s singles match, South Korea drew level when Sung Ji-hyun beat He Bingjao 21-12, 21-16.
Long would not fail to disappoint in the men’s singles, easily dispatching Jeon Hyeok-ji 21-10, 21-10.
But South Korea rallied to win the final two doubles games and edge their rivals by the narrowest of margins to claim their third Sudirman Cup title since its inception in 1989.
