Canadian Grand Prix: Qualifying as it happened

Follow all the action from Qualifying at the Canadian Grand Prix live right here.

02:10 It’s been an absolute treat of a qualifying session today, so please do join us tomorrow at 02:00 to see how the race pans out! We’ll be back before you know it to talk to you about it, until then, do take care, and we’ll chat soon!

02:02 It’s all over! Lewis Hamilton was a class apart and has zoomed to pole with a monster of a lap! 1.11.459! Wow! Congratulations to him, that’s his 65th pole position, which equals the tally of Ayrton Senna. Only the great Michael Schumacher is now ahead of him, on 68!

01:59 Here come the final runs…

01:58 Vettel closes to within 0.004 seconds of Hamilton! Three minutes to go, who will emerge victorious?

01:55 Hamilton’s lightning lap is the fastest ever on this circuit. Can anyone beat it?

01:53 The drivers had complete their first runs, Hamilton leads Bottas in a Mercedes 1-2, with Raikkonen P3. Back to the pits now for final preparations…

01:48 Right! Time to get down to business! It’s Q3 time!

01:46 Both Force Indias are through, along with both Silver Arrows, both Ferrari’s, both Red Bulls, a Williams and a Renault.

01:44 That’s it for Q2! Five more drivers out! A puncture for Kvyat after he nudges the wall on his final lap! He’s out anyway.

01:39 Dangerous days for some…

01:35 The cars are back in the pits before their final efforts, both Toro Rosso’s and Alonso in the drop zone right now. Meanwhile, its a mix-and-match of fast sectors at the front.

01:30 Hamilton sets the initial pace with a 1.12.4, with Raikkonen a tenth down.

01:26 Time for Q2, let’s play! Once again, the Toro Rosso’s lead them out!

01:24 Really bad day for Stroll: the Canadian is P17 while teammate Massa has cruised through in P5. Not the ideal home race so far.

01:20 That’s it for Q1! A late spin for Wehrlein has put him in the barrier! Double-waved yellows at turn one means nobody can improve! That’s gone and ruined some last-ditch efforts! We lose Vandoorne and also local man Stroll…

01:16 Vandoorne has a brush with a stray wall. The Belgian is in the danger zone…

01:13 Bottas now leads the way, although Hamilton has pipped Vettel and is now P2, 0.007 seconds down.

01:08 Grosjean has complained about a lack of grip, and has been informed that everyone is struggling. Meanwhile, Vettel has taken over at the top, 1.13.046.

01:05 The first laps are in! Kimi Raikkonen leads on a 1.13.5, with Vettel P2, 2 tenths down. The Ferrari’s are using supersofts, all other cars are on ultrasofts.

01:00 Red…red…red…Green! It’s time for Q1! Straight out come two Toro Rosso’s and Keevin Magnussen for Haas!

00:55 It’s a fair bit warmer today than it was yesterday afternoon, which should be to the liking of the drivers. 44 degree track temperature, 22 degree air temperature.

00:50 10 more minutes. Hamilton has been the star performer on Saturdays so far this season. Can he add to that record today?

00:45 15 minutes until the action starts. As a side note, Mercedes has distributed an engine update to its customer teams (Force India and Williams) for this weekend. The German outfit has been using the updated engine since Spain. Could the boost help either of those two teams spring a surprise?

00:40 Vettel and Hamilton certainly know their business around this circuit. More of the same today, or time for a fresh face?

00:35 Yet again, it was a red car that led the way in FP3, which is becoming a bit of a trend this year. But will Ferrari stay on top when it matters? In the meantime, here’s a reminder of the FP3 order.
