Azarenka and current world number 13 Lucie Safarova, who helped the Czech Republic win the Fed Cup last season, have added their names to the field of the WTA event, a leading warm-up tournament for Wimbledon.
A two-time winner of the Australian Open, Azarenka said: “This is my first time playing at the Aegon Classic Birmingham. I always love coming to Britain for the grasscourt tournaments. There is always a unique atmosphere here and the fans are so passionate.
“I have heard great things about Birmingham and the tournament, and I???m really looking forward to playing.”
The pair join defending champion Ana Ivanovic and last season’s French Open runner-up Simona Halep in the line-up for the event which takes place from June 15-21.
