India in tough WC qualifying group

Other sides in Group D are: Iran, Oman, Turkmenistan and Guam, after the draw in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Iran are ranked 40th in the world and are the highest ranked Asian side, Oman are in 97th position. Guam are ranked 175th wile while Turkmenistan are in 159th place.

India, who are ranked 147th, are up against Oman on June 11 and their second match will be away to Auam on June 16.

Ina chat with media after the draw, India coach Stephen Constantine said that his side was in a tough qualifying group.

"One doesn't need to explain the strength of Iran and Oman. Iran are the highest ranked Asian country while Oman are a very strong side," he said.

"Regardless of the Fifa Rankings, I am aware of the difficulties of playing against Turkmenistan and Guam. 

"It's a tough draw but it's always better to be in the draw than out of it and we will do all what is possible to get a result," he added.
