According to renowned columnist David Mayo, the American has sustained "a split lip and injured hands" after a few rigorous sparring sessions ahead of his May 2 fight against the Filipino at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
"I know because I saw them," Mayo said in his column on MLive.com.
"Let me confirm that Mayweather indeed has been coping with hand injuries.
"He has some skin marks on his knuckles. They require antiseptic. He even sometimes blows on them to relieve the stinging after the medication is applied, lest anyone think it is impossible to hurt boxing's pound-for-pound king."
However, Mayo doesn’t believe those niggles will hamper the undefeated Mayweather’s preparations and that claims of his injuries were overblown.
