Men's singles top seed Tzu Wei Wang advanced to the second round of the SKYCITY New Zealand Open while second seed Ajay Jayaram was knocked out on Tuesday.

Chinese Taipei's Wang breezed past local hopeful Manula Peires 21-5, 21-12 in just 22 minutes on the courts of the North Shore Events Centre in Auckland. 

Meanwhile, second seed Jayaram of India was defeated by the unseeded Chia Hung Lu 21-19, 21-13. At ten-all in the second game, Lu won 11 of the next 14 points to cause an upset.

Other top seeds to advance include third seed Jonatan Christie who beat Vincent Harris 21-7, 21-6 and fourth seed Prannoy H.S who bested Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 21-14, 21-16.
