Alonso cleared to head to Malaysia

The 33-year-old missed the opening race of the season due to a concussion suffered in a crash during pre-season testing, but has spoken of his confidence that he would be fit for this week's race at the Sepang International circuit.

The McLaren driver was examined by doctors at Cambridge University on Sunday and while no official statement has been made on the outcome of the tests, it is believed that Alonso has been given the green light to travel to Malaysia ahead of Sunday's race.

His adviser, Luis Garcia Abad, has been quoted as saying: "It is private so I cannot confirm or deny it, but I have no doubts he will go to Malaysia as planned."

Alonso has not yet been cleared though, as he still has to undergo two further tests before he will be able to race.
