That’s a wrap as Bottas takes P1

‘Very useful’ – Giroud praised by Deschamps

The curtain fell on 2015 pre-season testing in Barcelona on Sunday with Valtteri Bottas taking the final day honours ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Nasr.

Williams driver Bottas was fastest in the morning session with a 1:23.063, set on the super-soft Pirellis, and that time remained top for the rest of the day at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The Grove squad called a halt to their winter testing programme with just under 90 minutes in the session still to go, but the rest of the pack didn't really have a go at his fastest time.

With the exception of Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen and Jenson Button, the times from the drivers remained the same after lunch with Vettel in the Ferrari and Sauber's Nasr followed by Verstappen, Ricciardo, Sergio Perez and Nico Rosberg. It was an afternoon for long runs with a couple of teams experiencing reliability issues once again.

Pastor Maldonado, who was down in eighth in the morning with 35 laps, managed only one more lap before he put his Lotus E23 into the wall at Turn 4 and was unable to return again.

Verstappen also had limited running in the afternoon after an engine problem forced him back to the Toro Rosso garage. However, he was able to return for the final half an hour and improved his time to 1:25. 527.

Ricciardo and Button were not very productive in the morning as they clocked only 10 and two laps respectively, but they saw a bit more action in the afternoon with the Australian adding more than 50 laps to his total and Button doing 26 before a water leak forced McLaren to end their day's action early.

In terms of laps, Nasr topped the list with 159 followed by Rosberg with 146 and Perez and Raikkonen on 127. Perez reaching a century represents a good couple of days for Force India following the late arrival of their VJM08.

But now that pre-season testing is over and done with, it remains to be seen just how big a gap Mercedes will have when the first race takes place in Australia in a fortnight. They have done the most mileage and they have the fastest time through Rosberg's effort of 1:22.792 on Friday while they didn't even use the super-soft compounds at all during testing.
