The Italian has been ruled out of the race at Phillip Island as a result of injuries suffered in a fall during pre-season testing at the same venue on Monday afternoon.
A CAT scan has revealed fractures of the L1 and L2 vertebrae, and it has been decided that the best course of action is for the 25-year-old not to race this weekend.
“It won’t be easy to follow the first two races of the season as a spectator,” said Giugliano.
“It’s a real shame because I was feeling comfortable with the bike and the development work begun here was going really well. What can I say?
"Luckily, my physical condition is not so serious and this is the most important thing. Unfortunately, I have to sit out the Phillip Island races and now I must focus on recovering in order to get back on track as soon as possible.”
Giugliano's Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike Team have decided against fielding a replacement meaning that Chaz Davies will be their only representative in Sunday's race.
