Sixth seed Thomaz Bellucci was made to work to overcome Giovanni Lapentti 6-3 6-7 (4/7) 6-2 in a little under two and a half hours while number eight Victor Estrellaburgos beat qualifier Andre Ghem 6-4 6-4.

Alejandro Falla needed almost two and a half hours to get through his first round match, with the Colombian beating Brazilian opponent Joao Souza 6-7 (3/7) 6-1 6-4.

Argentinean qualifier Renzo Olivio beat Evgeny Donskoy 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 6-1, while Gerard Melzer beat fellow Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 1-6 7-6 (7/1) 7-6 (8/6).

Alejandro Gonzalez progressed after he was a 6-2 6-4 winner over Facundo Bagnis while Ecuadorian wildcard Gonzalo Escobar was beaten 2-6 6-4 6-3 by qualifier Nicolas Jarry.

Daniel Gimeno-Traver beat wildcard Marton Fucsovics 3-6 6-4 6-4.
