F2 Logistics received a big boost in its Philippine SuperLiga title quest after nabbing ex-La Salle superstar Ara Galang with the top overall pick in the 2016 Draft Friday at the SM MOA Music Hall.
Supposed to be picking late in the first round, the Cargo Movers were gifted the first selection then moved quickly to tap the services of the former UAAP MVP.
The Pampanga native was unable to hide her excitement about the development.
“Happy and overwhelmed,” she said when asked how she felt getting chosen. “I feel so blessed kasi maraming nagtitiwala sa akin.”
After joining the Draft Combine Wednesday, Galang’s name was not in the final list revealed just before the draft happened.
But in a stunning twist, the versatile spiker appeared and was promptly plucked by F2 Logistics.
Galang said she has been resting her injured knee since the UAAP finals, where they beat Ateneo in 3 games to win their first championship since Season 75.
“Sinabihan ako ng doctor ko na mag-rest muna,” she explained. “So medyo nag-aalangan ako na magpunta sa draft dahil sa kundisyon ko.”
But with the All-Filipino Conference starting in 3 weeks, Galang has a lot of catching up to do.
“In a way, it bothers me,” she admitted about the injury. “Pero kailangan ko ma-overcome yun, mind over matter. Kailangan ko isipin na lang na wala yun. For me, hindi naman siya ganun kalala talaga.”
“May time pa naman mag catch-up sa conditioning. Pero as of now talaga, prinioritize ko yung rest,” she closed. — By Joyce Palad
