Pocari Sweat unleashed a balanced offensive attack to turn back Iriga, 25-16, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
Four Lady Warriors finished in double figures, led by Elaine Kasilag, who had 17 points off 11 hits, 4 aces and a block.
Rossan Fajardo, Kai Nepomuceno and Lut Malaluan, meanwhile, each added 12 markers for Pocari, who continued to pace the 8-team field with a perfect 5-0 card.
After handily winning the first 2 sets, the Lady Warriors faced rough sailing in the third, as the Lady Oragons targeted their shaky reception.
Iriga eventually won the frame, 26-24, and even led Pocari, 7-5, early in the fourth set.
The Lady Oragons’ loaded service, however, became their own undoing, as they committed service error after service error to give the Lady Warriors separation and in the end, the match.
Michele Gumabao and Myla Pablo were in uniform, but were held on the bench as the coaching staff and management decided to give them an extra week of rest to recover from their respective injuries.
Shola Alvarez delivered 15 points off 11 hits and 4 aces even as Grazielle Bombita contributed 14 markers for Iriga, who saw its Final Four hopes all but snuffed out. — By Josiah Albelda
