Petron overpowers Generika to grab share of PSL lead

Powerhouse Petron unveiled a three-headed attacking monster to edge game Generika in a thrilling PSL All-Filipino Conference 4-setter Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Bernadeth Pons and Ces Molina all scored in double figures as the Tri-Activ Spikers outlasted the Lifesavers, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 27-25, for their second straight victory.

The Petron trio typified their team’s vaunted offense, with Maizo-Pontilas scoring 17 points, Pons adding 16 and Molina firing 14 markers.

Overcoming Generika’s defense, the Tri-Activ Spikers connected on 52 hits, making 37% of their attempts to more than make up for their 36 unforced errors.

Meanwhile, the Lifesavers suffered their second loss to fall to 1-2, with their usually-balanced offense sputtering against Petron’s solid net and floor defense.

Ria Meneses posted 14 points off 10 hits, 2 blocks and 2 aces while Chloe Cortez added 10. — By Joyce Palad
