Pocari Sweat authored one of the most inspiring comebacks in Shakey’s V-League history when they toppled Bali Pure in a heart-stopping 5-setter Saturday night at the Philsports Arena.
After getting blown out, 6-25, in the second set, the Lady Warriors found their second win to keep their record immaculate.
For Myla Pablo, it was about showing pride.
“Syempre sa amin nakakahiya, kasi yun nga pagtatawanan kami kasi as a professional team, ganun lalaruin namin, natambakan kami. Yun lang nakakahiya,” said Pablo, who paced Pocari with 24 big points on 22 kills and 2 blocks.
The former NU spiker credited the Purest Water Defenders for coming armed and ready to battle.
“Yung Bali Pure sobrang lakas talaga, andyan si (Grethcel) Soltones at (Alyssa) Valdez, di mo sila maalis sa sarili mo na Valdez, Soltones ‘to, malakas ‘to,” she said.
But after a nightmarish second set, Pablo and the Lady Warriors turned the tides to their favor in the last 3 sets for the morale-boosting win over Bali Pure.
“Sabi naming, may isang set pa naman, doon tayo bumawi, nung nakakuha kami ng one set, sabi naming kung kaya naming makuha yung one set, mas kaya nating makuha yung fourth set,” she said.
After almost squandering a 9-2 lead in the deciding set, Pocari showed maturity in handling endgame pressure with better communication, with Pablo delivering the match-sealing spike after a Valdez service error.
“Chill lang, relax lang tayo. Isang ikot lang tayo, kinakabahan naman rin kami kasi intense nga, pero sabi naming kaya natin yan,” she said. — By Jason Mercene
