There is a 70% chance the Foton Pilipinas will crack the Final Four of the AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship the country hosts on September 3 to 11.
At least that’s what team manager Alvin Lu believes, as the squad was formally introduced during a press conference at the Crimson Hotel in Alabang Friday.
“As a team manager, I have complete confidence sa mga player namin especially with the additional four (Rachel Anne Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Marano and Jen Reyes) and the two imports (Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher),” Lu said. “I would like to say at least 70% sure, we’ll end up in the top 4.”
The team is currently holding only twice-a-week training sessions due to conflict in their schedules in the ongoing PSL All-Filipino Conference.
Mother teams of all member players are currently in the upper half of the PSL standings and are probably heading into the semifinals of the tournament.
Regular practices will begin once the All-Filipino Conference ends mid-August, with the imports expected to arrive 2 weeks before the AVC AWCC begins.
“On August 17 we will trim [the lineup] down to 16,” Lu added. “This is the right time for the players of Foton Pilipinas para ipakita yung talent nila. Definitely after this tournament sisikat yan lahat.”
