Big move: Janine Marciano explains transfer from Bali Pure to Cignal

Janine Marciano is the biggest name to jump from the Shakey’s V-League to the PSL, with the former Bali Pure regular moving to Cignal in time for the Grand Prix this October.

Marciano, who made the decision early this month, said the HD Spikers have been trying to sign her up since she finished her NCAA career with San Beda and finally decided to transfer because of 2 reasons.

“I moved to Cignal kasi walang team ang PLDT,” she said of the Ultra Fast Hitters, a squad she helped lead to the V-League Reinforced crown last year. “Maganda rin offer nila (Cignal) that’s why I grabbed the opportunity.”

Marciano said it wasn’t an easy decision, especially because it meant stepping out of her comfort zone and leaving former teammates whom she has learned to get along with.

“Syempre mahirap! Mahirap kasi siyempre naging close mo na sila somehow,” she shared. “Tapos in a short period of time parang ang dami naming ginawa. Maraming nangyari, bonding moments from Guam, Tuguegarao, at kung san san pa. Sepanx nga kumbaga.”

“Ang hirap, nakakalungkot talaga. Alam mo yung gusto mong mag stay pero kailangan mo umalis. Magkikita-kita pa naman kami, hopefully. Sana maintindihan nila ko sa desisyon ko,” she added.

Now back in the PSL, where she played with Cagayan in 2014, Marciano is excited to prove her worth as competition has clearly leveled up.

Even her team, which finished sixth in the All-Filipino Conference a few months ago, recently retooled to move into contention.

“Ngayon, I feel excited kasi parang bago ulit siya sa akin,” she said. “Medyo motivated na rin kasi I know we will face stronger teams tapos may imports pa. I have to work hard para makasabay.”

Armed with a new team and a new mission, Marciano hopes that the hard work the HD Spikers have been putting in will yield good results in the Grand Prix.

After all, it will be an uphill climb, what with defending champion Foton and powerhouse teams like RC Cola-Army and F2 Logistics also stepping up.
