Cherry Rondina and Jem Gutierrez continued to shine in the sun-soaked UAAP Season 79 women’s beach volleyball tournament, keeping their record unblemished after 2 days of competition.
On Sunday, the UST duo blasted contenders La Salle and UP and afterwards said the key to their 4-0 card is teamwork.
“Nag-uusap lang kami ni Ate Jem. Manalo, matalo, laban pa rin tayo,” Rondina said. “Ilabas lang natin kung ano yung tine-training natin, kung ano yung mga pwede natin i-idiskarte sa laro. Nag-teamwork lang talaga kami ni Ate Jem.”
Rondina, who won the Season 77 title with former partner Rica Rivera, said losing in 2015 gave her a bigger reason to work harder for this year’s sandcourt fest.
And with 3 more games left in the elimination round, the Cebu native insists she is not thinking of a possible sweep.
As a matter of fact, she said the Golden Tigresses will simply focus on continuing to improve as the tournament goes on.
“Ang amin lang is kung ano yung galaw namin, yun pa rin. Maglaro lang talaga kami ng amin,” said Rondina. — By Joyce Palad
