Does UST hold the upper hand against crowd favorite Bureau of Customs in their upcoming Shakey’s V-League match on Saturday?
Transformers head coach Sherwin Meneses firmly believes so.
“Mas lamang pa nga sila (Golden Tigresses) kasi volleyball teamwork naman yan e. Malakas UST may teamwork na may tao pa,” he told FOX Sports. “Hindi porket may import ka e may advantage ka. Mas may advantage pa nga yung walang import kasi nagkakaintindihan kayo.”
Meneses also claimed that he is not considering Customs as a powerhouse team as the Transformers are just newly formed.
On paper, Customs boasts of one of the strongest rosters in the semi-pro circuit, with Alyssa Valdez at the helm and Rose Marie Vargas, Pau Soriano and 2 Thai imports forming the core.
“Noong una pa lang hindi naman talaga (powerhouse) kasi syempre kahit na may Alyssa ka syempre pito yang naglalaro e,” he said. “Bago lang yung team namin e. Nanalo lang ng dalawa kaya naging all eyes sa team namin pero sinimulan namin bago pa lang. Kahit napakalakas ng team mo bago pa lang yan.”
But despite these claims, Meneses hopes his team gives 101% every game, more importantly after they suffered a humbling first loss last Wednesday against Valdez’s previous club, Bali Pure.
“Malaking lesson yan. Number 1 is yung teamwork at yung chemistry din,” he reiterated. “Hindi na mga bata yan. Dapat every game ready sila. Di na namin dapat sabihin sa kanila.”
Meneses, while constantly downplaying talks of dominance, also gave a taste of a subtle warning in the end.
