Playing with a lot of grit and determination, the Foton Tornadoes captured their second straight PSL Grand Prix championship after beating the Petron Blaze Spikers in four sets, 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Imports Ariel Usher and Lindsay Stalzer went back to work as they reasserted their dominance and helping Foton complete a 2-game Finals sweep of Petron. The two imports combined for 33 points, while top local player Jaja Santiago added 10 points.
The Tornadoes started hot as they led early on in the game with a 2 sets to none lead.
Petron though heated up from there after striking back to take the third set in its bid to stay afloat against Foton.
But the Tornadoes have no plans of prolonging the series as the locals led by Santiago, Maika Ortiz and Dindin Santiago-Manabat stepped up to take the lead and eventually, the championship.
Petron import Stephanie Niemer finished with with 31 points (29 attacks, 1 block, 1 ace) while Serena Warner added 10 points. – Joyce Palad
