UST Tigresses, FEU stay perfect in UAAP women’s beach volleyball

Defending champion University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University sustained their hot start to stay on top of the women’s standings late Friday in the UAAP beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.

The Tigresses’ pair of Cherry Rondina and Caitlyn Viray overcame a first set scare to beat Ateneo’s Bea de Leon and Jules Samonte, 22-20, 21-15, stretching their perfect run to three games this season.

On the other hand, the Lady Tamaraws’ Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza also improved to 3-0 by beating De La Salle’s Tin Tiamzon and May Luna, 21-23, 21-14, 15-10. 

University of the Philippines’ Diana Carlos and Ayel Estrañero moved to solo third at 2-1 following a 21-13, 23-21 conquest of Adamson University’s Bern Flora and Chrislyn Uy.

Meantime, University of the East entered the win column as Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat nipped Roma Doromal and Audrey Paran of National University, 21-14, 19-21, 15-11.

The Lady Warriors tied the Lady Eagles, the Lady Spikers and the Lady Falcons at 1-2, while the Lady Bulldogs remained winless in three contests.

In the men’s side, National University took the men’s beach volley lead as Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad outlasted KR Guzman and Anthony Arbasto of defending champion UST, 21-19, 13-21, 18-16. 

In other men’s results, FEU bested Ateneo, 21-9, 15-21, 15-12, and UP, 21-17, 21-17, while the Blue Eagles bounced from the afternoon session loss to the Tamaraws with a 21-12, 22-20 win over De La Salle.  FEU and Ateneo tied UST in second at 2-1.
