Valdez, 12 hopefuls join first NT training

It has began.

Thirteen hopefuls joined the first training session of the national women’s volleyball team pool at the Arellano University – Legarda Gym yesterday afternoon.

Newly-minted head coach Shaq delos Santos, who was tapped to call the shots after La Salle’s Ramil de Jesus stepped down, led the session.

Former national team members Aby Maraño, Rhea Dimaculangan, Denden Lazaro, Maika Ortiz, Ces Molina, and Mika Reyes showed up as they aim for another tour of duty.

Jaja Santiago, who was tipped to play in Japan, attended the training along with Rebecca Rivera, CJ Rosario and Mylene Paat.

Creamline’s Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado were also present but did not join the drills due to swollen ankle and right shoulder injury.

Pocari’s Myla Pablo also participate but has to left early.

According to delos Santos, the final lineup will probably be revealed before the end of the week.

The coaching staff seeks to draw 14 players from the pool who are billed to play in the Asian Games in August and AVC Asian Cup in September.
