PVL: Pablo heats up as Pocari downs Petro Gazz

On a stormy Saturday evening, Myla Pablo waxed hot as Pocari-Air Force Lady Warriors claimed their first win against the Petro Gazz Angels in the quarterfinals of the PVL Reinforced Conference 2018 tripleheader at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Pablo delivered crucial points as Pocari beat PetroGazz in four sets, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-21, to nab their two-game losing skid.

PetroGazz heated right away and capitalized on Pocari’s early miscues to post a three-point advantage, 21-18, in the first set.

Warrior-turned-Angel Kai Nepomuceno made it rain from the service line as she scored three of the last four points via service aces to give PetroGazz the opening frame, 25-18.

Pablo led the charge in the second set as Pocari snared a game-high eight-point lead, 16-8.

Angels made a late set surge as they cut the deficit to just three, 21-18, before Pocari found their footing again to bag the set, 25-20.

The third set went down the wire as Pocari and PetroGazz traded hits up until the extension.

PetroGazz made caught up with Pocari to tie the set at 24. A single block from Pablo to Anastasia Trach of PetroGazz powered Pocari to seal the set, 26-24.

Pocari picked up where they left off and pocket set 4, 25-21.

Arielle Love topscored with 23 markers built on 19 kills, three blocks and an ace for the defending champions who also welcomed back a fresh-from-injury Wendy Semana.

Pablo finished the match with 18 hits off 15 attacks and three blocks as Pocari joined BanKo Perlas Spikers and BaliPure-NU Water Defenders in the winning column.

Ukranian import Olena Lymareva-Flink produced 22 points for PetroGazz in a losing effort.

Lymareva-Flink has foreign supporters a.k.a. her husband and family.
