Lauren Whyte and Macy Ubben conspired to give Iriga-Navy their first win in the quarterfinals, as they pounded the Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-9, 21-25, 26-28, 25-21, 15-13, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference quarterfinals on Saturday, at the Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The American duo provided an all around game. Whyte registered 25 markers on top of nine excellent receptions while Ubben scored 25 points as well laced with 14 digs.

The Lady Oragons won a lopsided first set as the Fighting Warays started the match playing out-of-sync.
After being marked in the opening salvo, Jovie Prado adjusted and delivered crucial back-to-back hits in the second frame to tie the game at one set apiece.
Down by as much as seven points in the third, the Lady Oragons sparked a 8-0 run as they overtook the lead, 22-21. Iriga’s fightback went down the drain as they lost steam in the extension, 26-28.
A persistent Iriga squad showed up in the fourth set with Ubben leading the charge to force a deciding fifth set.
The Lady Oragons rode on their momentum as they pulled away early in the fifth, 6-1. Amphorn Hyapha scored three straight points to give Tacloban the advantage, 7-8.
But Iriga was not to be denied. An Ubben block on Prado gave the team the match point followed by a Shaira Cabriana ace to seal the match in a thrilling five-setter affair.
Amphorn Hyapha paced Tacloban with 20 points in a losing effort.
Iriga improved to 1-2 record and will have to win their next two matches to give the them a better chance to the qualify for the next round.
On the flipside, Tacloban dropped to 0-3 with the loss dimming their hopes for a semifinals spot.
