The Philippines is set for tough international action when they march to the 2018 Asian Games women’s volleyball tournament which opens on August 18 at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.
The groupings of the eleven teams vying for the much-coveted gold medal were determined during the draw held at JS Luwansa Hotel and Convention Centre in Jakarta yesterday.
The Shaq delos Santos-mentored squad is slated with Japan, currently at no. 6 in the FIVB world rankings, and Southeast Asian giant Thailand in Pool A.
Joining the lesser-evil pool is Indonesia, which will be headed by the hard-hitting duo of Aprilia and Amalia Manganang, and Hongkong.
Olympic champions China and reigning Asian Games titlist South Korea, meanwhile, lead Pool B composed of Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and India.

The Philippine delegation will be bannered by mainstays Aby Maraño, who will serve as the skipper of the team, Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago and Dawn Macandili.
Completing the lineup are Kim Fajardo, Cha Cruz, Kim Dy and Majoy Baron of F2 Logistics, Creamline’s Jia Morado, Ces Molina and Mika Reyes of Petron, Denden Lazaro of Cocolife, and Foton’s Dindin Manabat and Maika Ortiz.
The schedule for the volleyball events, which will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta, is yet to be revealed.
