Following their sorry five-set loss against Generika-Ayala last Thursday, Petron Blaze Spikers bounced back and eked out a four-set victory against crowd-favorite F2 Logistics squad yesterday, 25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
To this, Petron head coach Shaq de los Santos said he is beyond proud.
“Nakakaproud,” de Los Santos told FOX Sports PH in beating volleyball champs composed mainly of DLSU stalwarts.
Petron got off to a flying start as they dominated the first set but it did not stop the Cargo Movers from recovering in the second frame where they pulled off a strong start, 6-0, from Michelle Cobb’s back-to-back aces and successful attacks from Mich Morente.
However, Petron regained momentum in the third and fourth sets from the combined effort of Bernadeth Pons, Mika Reyes, Cherry Rondina and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas who posted a total of 50 points.
De Los Santos admitted that F2 Logistics is a tough team to beat, and so they had to make game adjustments.
“Kasi alam namin kung gaano katibay yung team nila (F2) and ‘yung quality nung ilalaro so sobrang alam namin na mahirap silang kalaban.
The veteran coach also shared his delight seeing his team in an “all-out” performance against the Cargo Movers because it portrayed the lessons they learned after their loss against the Lifesavers.
The victory gave Petron a spot on the semifinals, and De Los Santos is nothing short of humility. He said he looks forward to all the other lessons that the team will learn on their upcoming games.
